Services

One of Telefónica I+D's missions is to create innovative services that round off the range of advanced, differentiating services the Telefónica Group offers its clients.

Nonetheless, this is not only about technology. Here at Telefónica we want to take the client into consideration, which is why we have User Experience Teams that study the wants and needs of the users so that we can create a service that is perfect for the client. The Living Labs are a reflection of this interest, offering companies, public bodies and citizens a place where they can meet and collaborate as well as the opportunity to test-drive the services in a real scenario

Our lines of services are:

  • Individual services. These include aspects of mobility and customization. Our activities have recently been focused on the automobile of the future and technologies related to environmental intelligence. Based on the convergence of all different types of communications, Telefónica I+D is now studying the way in which users interact with these services so that they can be adapted to suit our clients' needs.
  • Enterprise services: Large companies and SMEs. We have set up several new lines of activity centred on designing advanced work places and the future intelligent office. Customization and interaction are the most important innovations.
  • Home services. Our activity is based on applying new possibilities for entertainment and comfort offered by communications to the digital home.
  • E-health services: Our activities focus on designing new services for remote assistance and rehabilitation, home hospitalization, remote collaboration between medical professionals and services for the disabled. We make innovative use of IT by offering these services in a network-centric way after they have been adapted to the different client groups' needs according to criteria of accessibility and e-inclusion.

Furthermore, given its vocation for research and its orientation towards innovation, Telefónica I+D has a particular interest in exploring new businesses in the most recent and promising sectors, such as Internet and Multimedia.

  • Internet services, focused on social communities and networks, user generated contents, virtual worlds, and rich internet applications (applications that offer Internet services with a degree of interaction similar to that of traditional native applications).
  • Multimedia content access and interaction. These use image and voice recognition and real-time video to help the user search, classify and list multimedia contents. Our activity is also aimed at TV-centred services: new ways of displaying contents on the television, such as 3D imaging, extending the content information through the use of miniapplications that access Internet, and services that access contents in real time (streaming) or from portable devices (TV on the MoviStar mobile).
  • Services orientated towards communication with the mobile telephone: improvements to navigation, with simple, frequently used miniapplications (widgets); technologies associated with new execution and mobile presentation runtime environments (Android, Silverlight, Flash Lite...) and advanced capacities of modern terminals, such as accelerometers (for detecting the movement and position of mobile phones), gestural interfaces (to detect gestures), geolocation (which makes it possible to offer customized services depending on where the individual is located in the world).
