Real Elastic Cloud is one of Cloud technologies with more projection for the future, it allows an intelligent and remote management of applications without the need for the client to perform or have any technical expertise. In other words, it provides the necessary Cloud intelligence so that companies can focus on optimization and development of their business and not on the problem of the IT. This technology opens the door to a new Cloud concept that 'cares' of our most valuable applications. It offers the ability to align automatically the consumption of resources from the Cloud with actual demand and the evolution of our business, transforming fixed into variable costs. Thus, Real Elastic Cloud has positioned itself as the promise of the Cloud made reality.
The Cloud shall ensure the availability and quality of the service of our most critical applications. To this end, in a transparent manner to the user,, it will be able to detect and resolve the problems of the applications and it will have the intelligence necessary to increase or reduce automatically the capacity of the system (for example, CPU, storage, memory or bandwidth). If we would elect a simile, Real Elastic Cloud works in a similar way to the heating system of a housing, in the sense of lowering or raising the temperature easily. The user selects the degree considered necessary for his or her well-being and the system is responsible for mobilising the systems (gas flame, boiler, radiators, etc.) so that the home has the desired temperature.
Therefore, it becomes a very powerful tool for large companies and SMEs. In particular, it is the optimal solution in a context where there is a clearer bet of companies to open their businesses on the Internet, in which the ability to predict the demand (and its evolution) of services and businesses in the network becomes more uncertain, often with behaviors of “burst or demand peaks" very difficult to be managed by a company. In this scenario, companies face the challenge to avoid compromising the user experience and the customers satisfaction of the clients that make use of its online services (at times of peak when resources allocated in the Cloud are insufficient), but without being able to afford the cost of having to oversize the capacity (and cost) of its resources in the Cloud.
By way of example, there may be the case that a business that sells online, wants users take only 15 seconds to access its on-line store, list a category from the catalog, add a product to the shopping cart and receive OK for confirmation after click on the button 'buy'. The client may request at the Cloud this premise as its required level of quality service without being an expert in IT and without the advice of a specialized technician. Real Elastic Cloud will be in charge, once the order is received, to automate all processes for the Cloud to ensure store availability and appropriate performance so that the experience of its customers can be fully satisfactory without having to face unnecessary costs.
The added value is that with Real Elastic Cloud the developed system detects where there is the problem in the service and launches itself appropriate mechanisms to resolve the problem, so that the service to end customer is unaffected.
Telefónica I+D has achieved it with the development of an artificial intelligence algorithm, evaluating the background of the operator in the innovation of communication networks, its supervision systems, quality assurance, performance of mission critical systems and real time performance.
TID carries out its activity around Real Elastic Cloud in two areas: the research and through the RESERVOIR
research project with a number of technologies for the automatic deployment of services in an elastic way on virtualized infrastructures (Elastic Cloud).
