The changes that the society is undergoing in the development of new technologies is unstoppable, mostly due to the adoption by the ordinary citizen. Therefore, security and confidence in the use of new technologies must be established from the beginning to avoid threats and risks that are to come in the future and we cannot imagine them at this time. The number of computer networks present in the daily lives of people makes more critical the protection in two fundamental aspects: self-protection of the ICT infrastructure and the information in any format and for any use, that passes through these infrastructures.
In this environment, the role of telecom operators will be increasingly important both in the infrastructure safeguard role and in the end users trusted entity. And in this sense, Telefónica is placing itself as a provider of security services in all fields for its customers, becoming the ICT confidence facilitator they need.
Telefonica R & D is developing security technologies for network, systems, platforms and devices as well as the provision of security services going beyond the mere boundaries of the networks they operate. Specifically, the activity is concentrated in three major areas of innovation for future networks and services: automated collaborative security, advanced security services and reputation based on available network capacities, and advanced privacy control by the user.
In addition to these areas, we put a special focus on the safety of new technologies: new Cloud infrastructures, connectivity and the IPv6 based services or the multitude of smart devices, ubiquitous and interconnected by open schemes devices. The safety of these new technological paradigms is so vital to its success as its cost, its usability, performance or design.
