The Agile culture promotes a way of working, whose pillars are based on the constant communication, transparency, respect and trust among all people involved in the project (customers, developers…) And at the same time, to minimize the impact of adaptation projects, facing changes and developments in the environment (market, competitors…) A key element of this work philosophy is confidence and close collaboration between the team and the client.
Agile promotes simplification of existing processes by eliminating and reducing any unnecessary bureaucracy both in organizations and projects. Using short work iterations (from two to four weeks), it ensures the continuous assessment and adaptation of the results of the project and the way of working: quality of the product, internal communication, motivation, etc. The key to success is to have dynamic teams, motivated and committed to the outcome of the product.
These principles allow to manage easily complex projects. Their consequences are: greater efficiency, flexibility, dynamism, quality and obtaining "custom-made" products of requirements and customer expectations. It allows to get high quality software in the shortest possible time -and ultimately- it has influence in final satisfaction of customers and users.
Telefónica I+D adapts and extends Agile culture
Telefónica I+D started using these new ways of working in 2007. Several of its projects with 02 UK and 02 Germany were pioneers in the use of these methodologies in Telefónica. Since then, most Telefónica I+D projects are developed following this philosophy, already implanted into its working culture and organization. Besides, it has a team of coaches that supports and collaborates internally in its implementation, as in other branches of the company.
In November 2009, Telefónica I+D presented to O2 Germany its experience in the transition to this new philosophy of managing and developing innovative products and services. As a result of this meeting, was born the aim of collaborating in this field. One of the results has been the creation of the Agile Community. It is a community of users of agile methods, with a portal for the exchange of experiences, information and knowledge about Agile, which can be accessed by all Telefónica employees. https://agile.telefonica.com
Telefónica I+D is considered a national reference point in the knowledge and use of these methods. Its experts are required in various forums and conferences, to explain our experience.
